Dead Floyd brings a psychedelic jam to the sold out Aggie Theatre

Channeling the sounds of the 60s, last weekend Dead Floyd took the stage at the Aggie Theatre. Their first time selling out the venue, the energy bouncing between the band and the audience made the night one to remember. With the tiered floor of the Aggie, every audience member could be seen dancing the night away, from the start of the show until the end.

Since 2009, Dead Floyd has been a cover band fusing together the music of two of legendary bands, Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead. Based in Fort Collins, Colorado, Dead Floyd has been playing the Fort Collins area for years, continuously being voted one of Colorado’s top tribute bands. The band consists of, Charlie Humphreys (guitar, vocals), Todd Smallie (bass), Stu Crair (drums, vocals), Laniece Schleicher (vocals), Andrew Vogt (saxophone), and Matt Goldberg (keys, synth), all of which are experts in blending together blues, psychedelic rock, jazz and funk. From the first chord the band struck, the crowd went wild, starting the beginning of an incredible night.

Throughout the night, each member of the band took their time to shine. A memorable moment for me was during the first Pink Floyd cover of the night, when the vocals started. Laniece Shleircher, vocalist, was truly an expert in bringing Roger Waters’ lyrics to life. When it came to the Grateful Dead covers, vocalist Charlie Humphreys embodied the perfect blend of smoothness with an edge that both Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia mastered. Every member of the band worked together seamlessly, the most well-oiled of machines when it comes to tribute bands.

Dead Floyd provided a breathtaking night of music, not only for Pink Floyd or Grateful Dead fans, but for any music lover out there. Next time Dead Floyd plays Fort Collins, check out a show to create a night to remember.
