Closures occurred on Interstate 25 heading north to the Wyoming state line border. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the 30 mile strength of road was closed due to safety concerns. Closures began this morning, and as of now, the route remains closed.
KCSU News has also received reports of other damages occurring across the city from the strong winds. Damages include fallen trees and roofing ripped from homes and apartments.

Strong winds today forced the closure of the campus at Colorado State University. The university announced that the campus would be closed at 3:30 pm on March 12, 2026. The CSU Fort Collins Alert Message was sent just before 1:30 pm to the CSU community.
“CSU Larimer County campus classes, meetings, and all activities after 3:30 p.m. are canceled for the remainder of the day, March 12, due to impacts of high winds,” the message read. CSU also advised to avoid the campus and to use caution.
“Do not come to campus. Those on campus are advised to leave campus when possible. Remain indoors until you are able to leave. Use caution when traveling and be aware of debris.”
Additionally, in Fort Collins today, a fire began in the northern part of the city, causing mandatory evacuations to occur. According to Nine News Denver, evacuation orders were placed on the borders of Highway 287, Vine Drive, and Overland Trail. The evacuations began around 12:30 p.m., and the Poudre Fire District responded to the scene.
According to the Poudre Fire District, the fire began south of Terry Lake. Around 1 pm evacuations notices were lifted. A warning to remain cautious was in effect, however. NoCo Alerts provided details on the fire and the lifted evacuations.
