Femi Kuti, the oldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, continues his father’s work to create bafflingly rich sonic landscapes. His musical career began with playing his father’s band Africa 70 before moving on to lead his own group called Positive Force. Since the mid-19802, Kuti has made a name for himself with his unique vocals and musical abilities with the saxophone, trumpet, and keys. He has also collaborated with artists like Nile Rodgers, Mos Def, Common, and Macy Gray to crate jazz, funk, and Afrobeat classics.

3.) Glare – Sunset Funeral (2025)
Glare, a Shoegaze trio originating from Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas, is here with their first-ever LP. Forming in 2017 with the release of their singles “Blank” and “Into Me”, the group seeks to create intense yet dreamy rock tracks. Originally an emo outfit, Glare quickly moved into the alternative rock/shoegaze arena with their spaces-out and vast guitar tones.
This week’s highlighted track, “2 Soon 2 Tell” is an alternative and heavy track with souring, regretful vocals.
2.) Sheldon Agwu – Kintsugi (2025)
Sheldon Agwu is no stranger to genre-bending work, stepping into the field of his first solo release LP “Kintsugi” with the experiences of being a session musician. This latest album leans towards a jazzier sound, with tones of hip-hop, spoken word, and experimental carefully interspersed. Multi-instrumentalist Agwu is based in London, England and has performed and collaborated with numerous artists like Jamie Woon, Bonobo, and Jordan Rakei, “Kintsugi” comes from the Japanese art of mending cracked pottery by repairing crevices with gold or aluminium.
This week’s selected track, “meditation Ribbon Dance” features vocals from Ylenia Tilli and spans the line between trip hop and ambient, meditative jazz.
1.) Stereolab – Instant Holograms On Metal Film (2025)
With their retro-futuristic synthesizers, delicately hypnotic vocals, and catchy pop melodies, Stereolab has earned a special place in the hearts of indie rock fans. Hailing from England and France, their first EP was released in 1991. The group has always been on the lookout for a new sound, adding tones of jazz, indie pop, dance, electronic, and avant-garde.

5.) Tyler, The Creator – CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST (2021)
One of the most recognizable names of the current alternative hip-hop scene, Tyler, The Creator (also known as Tyler Gregory Okonma) has been releasing tracks since 2007. Founder of Odd Future and Golf Wang, he rose to prominence with skate culture in Southern California. Known for his edgy, hardcore style, he switched to a more lo-fi and experimental tones with 2017 release of his Flower Boy LP. Wearer of many (furry) hats, he has moved into fashion, perfumery and acting.

4.) Giant Wave – Year of Space (2025)
Year of Space is the first full-length album from sophisti-pop artist Giant Wave, led by Will Rockwell Ryerson. Originating from Baltimore, Maryland, Ryerson has been a consistent feature of the city’s DIY scene, Bending genres, this newest release explored the application of indie-pop and ambient genre then finds more depth with hip hop features and woodwinds.
This week’s highlighted track, “Part of Me” is gentle and jazzy, with Ryerson’s vocals syncopating the airy piano melodies.
3.) New Orthodox – Bull Market on Corn (2025)
New Orthodox is the experimental outfit of New York based multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Merz. His signature style of resonant, minimalist instrumentation and deeply thoughtful lyricism has cumulated in his most recent release, Bull Market on Corn. The album dives into the irony and surrealist experience of American life, utilizing the pedal steel to create a haunting and experimental landscape. Engineered and mixed by the late Steve Albini, this noisily expressive album creates an impenetrable haze of emotion that envelopes the listener.
This week’s selected song, “Living Theatre” is short but impactful with quaveringly emotional vocals and harmonious pedal steel drones.
2.) SASAMI – Blood on the Silver Screen (2025)
Hailing from New York, Sasami Ashworth got her musical start playing the French horn in middle school before going on to attend a performing arts high school, and later on the Eastman School of Music. It as there that Sasami began working on scores and orchestral arrangements for film, as well as teaching music in LA. She began releasing solo music in 2018 and quickly garnered positive attention from publications like Pitchfork, calling her debut single “Callous” one of the “best New Songs” of the year. Sasami has taken influence from a variety of sources including Asian, femme protagonists in movies, and Bruce Springsteen’s Americana denim.
This week’s selected track is “In Love With A Memory” which features Clairo’s gentle harmonies and electric synthetic lines.
1.) Franc Moody – Chewing the Fat (2025)
Dance/electronic dup Franc Moody has spent the better half of the last decade releasing synthesizer-infused funk that is positively dripping with catchy dance beats. Pulling influence from synth-funk greats such as Jamiriqouai and Daft Punk, this London-based duo composed of Ned Franc and Jon Moody lives to hypnotize with their electric disco arrangements.
