ZULU is a hardcore punk band based out of Los Angeles, California. Playing since 2019, the band started as a solo project by vocalist Anaiah Muhammad. Today, ZULU is composed of vocalist Anaiah Muhammad, Dez Yusuf on guitar, Braxton Marcellous on guitar, Satchel Brown on bass and Christine Cadette on drums.
To put it briefly – ZULU’s set was absolutely incredible. The versatility of the group’s musical abilities was inspiring to the audience, especially to any musicians in the crowd. ZULU was excellent at their crowd control, their setlist driving the dynamics throughout the night. The band tends to play their track, “Shine Eternally,” amid most of their sets, proving their musical excellence and adaptable style.
One of my favorite things about ZULU’s set was their stance on being kind to one another and standing up for what is right. They use their platform to incite change and to share their experiences while inspiring their audience to do whatever they can to make our world a better place. As said in a quote on Tour Peachy’s website, lead vocalist Anaiah Muhammad explains the group by saying “Zulu isn’t a political band at all. I started Zulu because I wanted to be in an all-black band and talk about what we go through and been going through. But also celebrating our lives at the same time.”
Given the opportunity, ZULU is a band you do not want to miss. ZULU played at The Coast in Fort Collins, Colorado on September 25th, 2024. For more information about the band, visit blackpowerviolence.com.
