Last Thursday, the Lyric hosted touring band Redd and The Paper Flowers alongside Fort Collins local bands, Virgil Vigil and Lewis Turner. A night of beautiful music, each band brought its own unique sound to the Lyric stage.

Local folk artist Lewis Turner kicked the night off with an acoustic set. With Turner’s incredible voice accompanied by an acoustic guitar and amazing lyrics, the audience knew they were in for a treat at the first song. With inspiration from Bob Dylan and other folk artists, the acoustic set was a great way to start the night. It takes a talented musician to captivate an audience with simply a voice and a guitar, yet it was second nature for Turner. Lewis Turner set a high standard for the bands the rest of the night.

The second band to take the stage was the local Fort Collins four-piece band, Virgil Vigil. If you have been to a Virgil Vigil show before, you know how these musicians work together to not only create music, but to create a peaceful vibe overall. By the second song, the audience was sure to be floating, drifting away to the gorgeous planet known as Virgil Vigil. Grounded by the end of their songs, each note felt like it was coming straight from the soul of the band.

The final band of the night to take the stage was Knoxville-based band, Redd and the Paper Flowers. Another four-piece folk band, a mandolin, acoustic guitar, a cello, and a bass, Redd and the Paper Flowers filled the Lyric with their impressive sounds. With enchanting vocals melting together effortlessly, the touring band immediately had the room’s attention. One of my favorite parts of a concert is when artists take the time to tell the story behind their songs, and Redd and the Paper Flowers entertained the audience even further by explaining what their music means to them.

A night mixed with local and touring artists, this show has excited me for upcoming shows with all of the artists who performed. The Lyric, a movie theater and music venue, is a great place to check out upcoming local & touring live music. Visit lyriccinema.com for upcoming events.
