The Only Thing Worse Than A Woman Who Lies Is A Girl Who Tells The Truth, is an EP released by Odie Leigh in July of 2023. The whole EP carries a very somber emotion with slower melodies and melancholic picking patterns. Throughout the whole EP Odie Leigh is describing how her past relationships have shaped who she is now as well as shaping how she will navigate current and future relationships.
The EP starts off with the song, Accommodating, where Odie Leigh is attempting to explain her complicated relationship with a significant other to the listener. The title is very straightforward because through their relationship Odie Leigh has been very accommodating to the needs of her significant other while that may not have been reciprocated.
The second track, As Sure As I’m Speaking, touches on how her past relationships and experiences have shaped who she is now, yet she does not know who she will be in the future. Although, she explains that she does not want her future relationships to define who she is, she wants to be her own person who does things for her own sake and not attract the attention of men.
The third track, Sheep Song, initially sounds more upbeat and uplifting but when taking a deeper dive into the lyrics it is arguably the most emotionally charged song where Odie Leigh is describing her past relationships when she was younger and covers some very personal experiences, in my opinion this song is about personal growth. Knowing your own worth while having the understanding that other people may never change but you can change and want better things for yourself in a relationship.
Double Shift, the fourth song of the EP Odie Leigh describes a past relationship where her significant other is still in contact with her. She talks about the guilt she feels when they see each other and it feels like a “double shift” and no matter how hard she tries to cut off contact she can never bring herself to it and she is stuck in a loop where she wants to change but can’t. In my opinion this is my favorite song of the EP.
The fifth and final song of the EP, Chutes And Ladders, talks about a new relationship that Odie Leigh has engaged in as she finally feels happy and content being single. The person she is in a relationship with is well meaning and romantic and she is wanting to make it work but she knows she can’t so she is telling herself that love is a game of chutes and ladders and there will be ups and downs but knows deep down that she is happier single and it killing her from within.
