Darlingside is coming to the Armory in Fort Collins on October 20th. In preparation for their upcoming concert, here is an album review of their latest release, Everything is Alive. Prior to listening to the album, it is noticeable that the album cover is undoubtedly eye-catching. With bold font to catch your attention and a collection of images to keep you interested. With the vibe of a movie poster, the album cover lets the listener know that the album will send them on a trip, one they will never forget.
To start things off, Track 1, “Green Light” gives the album a hopeful, dream-like introduction. It is the perfect way to start the album, with the feel of a life that is turning around for the better. Leading into the next two tracks, “Lose the Keys” and “Right Friend,” continue these emotions, evoking the tears you cry out of happiness.
“All the Lights in the City” is the perfect transition piece into the tracks “Eliza I See” and “Darkening Hour,” the tracks that are happy yet bittersweet. The lyrics of each song in the album are each perfectly unique, yet melt together effortlessly, showing today’s world of singles what it means to make a true work of art, an album.
The second half of the album starts with “How Long Again” an almost acapella piece, putting your mind into a beautiful brain fog of wondering what’s next. “Down Here” introduces itself with an enchanting guitar lick, with instrumentals slowly building throughout the song. This is the song of the album that needs to be in a coming-of-age movie soundtrack.
“Baking Soda” holds my favorite lyrics on this album, a collection of words packed full of metaphors. A chorus of “There’s nothing left but the weather here, the weather this year” is a line that makes you think of all you’ve left behind in the town you left behind. And all that you find when you return. “Sea Dogs” transitions out of this track into the last two songs of the album, with a vocal heavy piece that makes you think by speaking of how everything living must die.
The track “Can’t Help Falling Apart” leads into the end of the album’s “Breaking Of The Day.” Starting with piano, it lets the listener know that this album has come to and end, while appreciating the journey it has takenThe concert is part of their latest album release, Everything is Alive, available on all streaming platforms.
