Volunteer Information

We do way more than play music! KCSU has a full staff of about 15 students who lead their departments about 10 hours per week. Each department has interns and volunteers that could be you! Departments include production, video, engineering, web editor, promotions, and local music.

All enrolled CSU students and other area college students are welcome to get involved. Listed below are the different job titles and levels of commitment. To get started, email training@kcsufm.com or swing by our offices in suite 118 of the Lory Student Center.

DJ:  Click HERE to find out how to become a DJ and host your own show!

Once you have completed the training, all 1st semester DJs will be considered Rotation DJs (prime time is from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.), 3/4 of the music played on prime time will be KCSU’s rotational music and 1/4 will be the DJ’s choice.

Podcaster: Want to be a part of KCSU by creating podcasts? Sign up to attend the KCSU training program HERE!

Intern: KCSU staff members accept interns to work in their department on a consistent schedule on various projects each week.

This is perfect for students looking to build their resume and/or become a KCSU staff member. There is no minimum or maximum time commitment to be an intern. We just expect consistency so your department head can count on you! All internships are unpaid.

Practicum: KCSU Practicum students earn college credit to work here!

Most practicum students earn 1-credit per 50-hours of work each semester. Talk to your academic adviser about this option. Depending on your major, this option might be called an “Independent Study.”

Staff Member: All staff positions are open for hiring at the end of the spring semester.

Staff members at KCSU are paid full-time degree-seeking students who work a consistent schedule during business hours at KCSU about 10-hours per week. This is the highest level of involvement at KCSU and a desirable, fun, on-campus job.

Each staff is the head of a department. Some departments change each year but the most consistent ones include Station Manager, Engineering, Local Music, Music Director, News, Sports, Production, Programming, Promotions, Training, Underwriting, Video, Web Master, and Social Media. Staff members are expected to attend all DJ events, all staff meetings, and be a face for KCSU in the community.

Volunteer: Help KCSU staff in a department of your choice on a by project basis.

This is perfect for students with little time but high passion. We will give you projects to help you learn more about the business.
