The Wrecks came to Denver for their second stop on the Finally: Outside tour. Kid Sistr and Worry Club supported the band in celebrating the release of the second part of their new EPs, titled Inside and Outside. Following the highly praised album Sonder, released in 2022, The Wrecks have cultivated a peppy, upbeat sound to back their newfound self-loving lyrics. While the band previously wrote about breakups, escaping abuse, and seeking self-acceptance, the new dual EPs Inside and Outside find friendship and community through music.
Their high-energy performance fed the crowd throughout the night. Several fans were gifted free sweatshirts, signed items, and even the chance to crowd surf towards the stage. Nick Anderson, the lead singer, had brilliant tone and energy even while fighting the altitude in Colorado. Anderson’s lyricism and songwriting have entered a more mature stage of reflection and contemplation, a turnaround from Inside, where the focus was on mental health struggles and finding contentment.
Nick “Shmizz” Schmidt and Aaron Kelley have stayed as a constant in the band’s growth and sound, supporting Anderson with moving lines and a strong center of sound. From more pop-sounding tracks like “Out of Style” to more classic-sounding punk-rock tracks like “Sonder”, the show was filled with the best and newest of The Wrecks discography. Returning and new fans alike held up to the show’s high demand for energy and excitement, singing the group back on for the encore. Notably, the band’s touring drummer, Zendé Murdock, maintained impressive ornamentation and groove throughout the set.
After the late subtraction of former drummer Billy Nally from the group, fans concern for the quality of performance stirred across social media. Murdock, however, puts these concerns to rest with his incredible, energetic performances and delightful atmosphere on stage with the rest of the musicians. From year to year, each performance by The Wrecks is a fun collaboration between each musician and their connections with the audience, which is part of what makes them such a joy to experience live.
With the addition of Outside to their already well-established discography, The Wrecks’ “Finally: Outside” tour is sure to keep fans hyped and excited across America.
