Last Wednesday, local deadheads filled the Aggie Theater to witness an incredible Grateful Dead cover band, with a wild bluegrass twist. Pickin’ on the Dead, made up of Tyler Grant, Ace Engfer, Michael Kirkpatrick, and Jake Wolf, delivered a wonderful performance filled with some of the band’s most classic hits.
Center Stage included an incredible Mandolin Player, performing some amazing solos throughout the night. He also took the role of Jerry Garcia, the main singer of the original Grateful Dead. His voice mirrored Jerry’s, giving fans the full experience that many cover bands tend to lack. Throughout the set, he was able to continuously hit the notes exactly like Jerry, sending a wave of smiles through the entire crowd. The mandolin was an incredible touch, adding the perfect bluegrass tone to the night.
While the mandolin solos were absolutely unforgettable, we couldn’t ignore the insane guitar solos coming from left stage. Switching between acoustic and electric, the guitarist meshed incredibly well with the mandolin. Altering between guitar and mandolin caused the crowed to jump, yell, and twirl all night! Right stage showcased a fantastic bass player, keeping the crowds heads rocking all night!
The band was able to set an incredible atmosphere here at the Aggie theater, and I would totally recommend checking them out at WinterWonderGrass this year!
