Volunteer Information
KCSU does way more than play music! We have a full staff of about 20 students who lead 12 different departments; sports, news, production, podcast, promotions, engineering, web, development and, of course, music including local music.
All enrolled CSU and Front Range students are welcome to get involved during the academic year. In summer, KCSU is open to everyone in our community!
Listed below are different volunteer opportunities, each with varying levels of commitment. To get started, email training@kcsufm.com or swing by our offices in suite 118 of the Lory Student Center.
DJ: Click HERE to find out how to become a DJ and host your own show!
- Once you have completed the training, all incoming DJs are considered Rotation DJs. It’s required to complete one semester as a Rotation DJ before becoming a Specialty DJ. These DJs host shows based on curation, themes. and/or the ability to bring in music outside the KCSU library for broadcast.
- Rotation DJ shows are hosted between 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.. and consist of playing KCSU’s rotational (library) music for 3/4 of the show time with 1/4 DJ choice.

Practicum: KCSU Practicum students earn college credit to work here!
- Practicum students earn 1-credit per 50-hours of work each semester for a maximum of 3 credits. Contact peter.waack@colostate.edu for more information on KCSU practicum. Depending on your major, this option might be called an “Independent Study.”
Staff Member: All staff positions are open for hiring at the end of every spring semester.
- Staff members at KCSU are students from CSU or Front Range in the process of pursuing a degree. This is the highest level of involvement at KCSU and a desirable, fun, on-campus job. Staff members are expected to attend all KCSU events, including station meetings, and be a face for KCSU in the community.
- KCSU hires on an “as needed” basis, with all positions re-opening in the spring. All KCSU staff positions are posted to the Rocky Mountain Student Media’s Handshake page. This is where you can check to see if we are currently hiring.
Volunteer: Help KCSU staff in a department of your choice on a by-project basis.
- This is perfect for students with little time but high passion. We will give you projects to help you learn more about the business. Email programming@kcsufm.com for questions about volunteering
