Flatland Cavalry, hailing from Lubbock, Texas, lit up Red Rocks Amphitheater on Monday, October 8th. Founded in 2012, the Flatland Calvary’s members started off playing in small local shows, before being brought together by lead singer Cleto Cordero.
They released their first album as a group in 2016 and now have over 1.5 million listeners per month across the world. Due to it being a Monday night, the tickets were affordable, and the venue was packed full of excited fans anxiously awaiting their arrival.
The night was opened by the Wilder Blue, playing their hits such as “Palomino Gold” and waking up the crowd with their skillful fiddling. Despite frontman Zane Williams in the spotlight, banjo player Andy Rogers stole the show with multiple instrumental solos that elicited roars from the crowd.
After such an energetic opener, Randy Rogers Band stepped up and slowed things down a bit, focusing on their more emotional songs and finishing with a heartfelt performance of “One Last Goodbye”.
Once Flatland Cavalry finally took the stage, the crowd was captivated, standing on their feet for the first time that night. They opened with their hit, “Mountain Song”, and the crowd sang along.
They truly stood out over the two openers, with lead singer Cleto Cordero making a personal effort to introduce every member of the band and allow each to be in the spotlight. The energy in the amphitheater reached its peak for the night with Flatland Cavalry’s rendition of John Denver’s “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”, which had the crowd on their feet and shouting along to every word.
