The local Fort Collins music scene united at the Aggie Theatre last Thursday, for the celebration of Frail Talk’s new release “Microspirit.” With opening sets by Sound of Honey and Slow Caves, the night was set for success from the start.
Starting the show with Sound of Honey, the night was off to a beautiful start. With members from Frail Talk also playing in the opening act, it was great to see the integration of Fort Collins musicians as a whole. The dreamlike vocals and spacey instrumentals from Sound of Honey were the perfect opening to a wonderful night.
The indie rock band Slow Caves took the stage next, getting the audience moving. The distorted vocals and crunchy instrumentals got the full Aggie Theatre dancing, anyone who was not a Slow Caves fan prior to the show was sure to be by the end of their set. The local music-loving audience was prepared for the main act of the night, Frail Talk.
Frail Talk’s most recent release, “Microspirit” was an incredible addition to the discography of the Fort Collins band. Since 2020, the band has been creating sound waves and has never failed to convey the emotion of their music. Releasing “squiggly indie music for squiggly people,” the live performance following this release was utterly breathtaking. With every song, you could feel the happiness from the entire band, but especially the front people Alex Woodchek and Cor Wright. This duo is one to see, creating a precise image through their lyrics, the band coming together to help convey that image to the audience. Tobias Bank on drums set the mood, while Emma Rose accompanied the beats and drew the audience through each song. Lights accompanying lyrics and a disco ball turning for one of the songs later in the set, the audience was mesmerized by the performance. Frail Talk is the prime example of a band that has the power to bring you to tears life, with an incredible live performance.
