Where were you last Friday? If your answer is The Lyric, attending the Album Release show of King Crawdad, then there is one answer to how your Friday night went – amazing. With the stacked lineup including King Crawdad, Los Toms, and Jesus Christ Taxi Driver, it is safe to say the new album “Serotonin Castle” was celebrated.
The night started off with the one and the only Jesus Christ Taxi Driver. Setting the tone for the night, Jesus Christ Taxi Driver brought an energy to the stage like no other. The band got the audience excited and fully engaged in the music. Jesus Christ Taxi Driver’s members are undoubtedly very talented musicians. They create incredible music, with songs certain to get you up and moving. But what really made Jesus Christ Taxi Driver stand out was the energy they put out onto the stage. The energy was contagious, making me even more excited for what was to come.
Next to take the stage was “psychedelic desert fuzz” band, Los Toms. Los Toms defined the idea of a perfect set list – a mixture of originals and covers, with spoken parts in between. Just when you thought you knew what they’d play next, you’d be pleasantly surprised with the next tune. From the moment they started sharing their music with the crowd, you could tell Los Toms was in another dimension. And by the end of it, I was transported to their dimension as well. Los Toms’ creativity embodies the true power and versatility of music.
Two incredible bands and a new dimension later, King Crawdad was ready to celebrate their new album. King Crawdad stayed true to their “a hug you can hear” mantra throughout the show. The audience was having a great time throughout the night, but when King Crawdad was onstage, a crowd unified through the music. The talented three piece was outstanding at creating the perfect combination of sound waves to get the crowd moving and grooving. Accompanied by visuals of nature, King Crawdad’s performance was definitely one for the books.
It was beautiful to witness so many people coming together to sing and dance to their favorite local bands. The Lyric was the perfect venue to see these bands play, creating a dynamic like no other.
