Jonathan Gillham highlights some of the harrowing stories of African American athletes who fought to break the color line. Although Jackie Robinson is one of the more well-known athletes who worked to desegregate sports, Gillham dives into the first instance of Black and white athletes competing together professionally in America as well as some of the first and most famous people of color to win medals in the Olympics.
